Professor Kõks has collaborated with Avicena Systems as a Scientific Advisor since 2020. He holds a joint appointment with the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Innovative Therapeutics (CMMIT) at Murdoch University and with the Perron Institute as Head of Genetic Epidemiology and Adjunct Professor at the UWA Centre for Neuromuscular and Neurological Diseases.

Professor Kõks joined the Perron Institute from the University of Tartu, Estonia, in 2018 and completed his postdoctoral research in genomics at King’s College, London. His current research focuses on the use of high throughput genetic marker screening technology to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson’s disease.

Professor Kõks’ experience also encompasses wide fields such as psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis, osteoporosis and osteosarcoma, as well as scalable, accurate screening for infectious diseases. Professor Kõks is a highly published researcher, is an active member of several international research consortia and was appointed a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
