Animal Biosecurity

Scalable and Affordable Biosecurity for Animal Industries

Rapidly detect and monitor a range of infectious diseases at any scale to safeguard the health of your livestock with the Avicena Sentinel.

Animal Health & Food Safety at Risk

Infectious diseases pose a huge risk to livestock and food industries.

Infections in cattle, horses, and pigs can have devastating consequences for producers, industries and food supply chain security.

Avicena Sentinel

Rapid & Scalable Pathogen Detection

Combining fast, accurate, scalable and affordable pathogen screening, the Avicena Sentinel ULTRA is an ideal pathogen screening system for animal biosecurity.

The fully automated solution has a unique surge capability, allowing hourly processing of up to 5,000 samples if required.

A Versatile Platform for Robust Biodefence

As a platform based on LAMP, a sensitive technology similar to PCR, Sentinel can readily adapt to existing tests for a wide variety of existing and emerging animal pathogens.

IMMEDIATE THREATS

Avian Flu

Avian influenza (AI), also known as Bird Flu, is a viral disease that affects birds worldwide. There are many strains of the virus, the most severe causing deadly infections in poultry.

Bird species, including chickens, turkeys, ducks, and pigeons, are vulnerable to AI, with over 140 species reported as carriers.

In 2022, 67 countries in five continents reported [high pathogenicity avian flu] outbreaks… with more than 131 million domestic poultry lost due to death or culling.

Lumpy Skin Disease

Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV) is an imminent threat to Australia’s livestock industry.

The recent temporary suspension of some Australian cattle imports due to the virus underscores the potentially severe economic impact of such an outbreak.

An outbreak of [LSDV] would cost Australia $7.4 billion in its first year, from lost trading opportunities.

Should LSDV require large-scale screening to identify infected cattle earlier to contain the spread, a system validated for immediate use will be critical to counter this risk in time to allow eradication from herds.

African Swine Fever

Having spread from Africa to Europe and Asia, African swine fever (ASF) has killed hundreds of millions of pigs, affecting meat markets globally.

With a mortality rate reaching 100%, this highly contagious virus poses a grave threat to domestic and wild pigs.

We estimate that 43.46 million pigs died... during the first year of the ASF outbreaks.

While ASF doesn’t endanger human health, it has devastating effects on pigs and the farming industry, and there is no effective and sustainable vaccine solution

Enforce your First Line of Defence

Rapid detection, reporting and response to disease outbreaks is the first line of defence.

Avicena’s end-to-end system provides flexibility in processing different sample matrices, including blood, skin lesions, and saliva.

The system securely reports results within 30 minutes of loading samples and can precisely link results to animals for reliable traceability.

1Intended Use

The Avicena Sentinel instrument is intended for trained laboratory professionals to run isothermal amplification assays. Diagnostic use of the Sentinel requires IVD reagents and laboratory workflows which have been authorised by relevant regulatory agencies in each jurisdiction and by Avicena Systems as compatible with the instrument.
